Of the ties that bind us, art is integral to the expressions and practices of Global African peoples. The Global Pan African Movement, North America commemorates this African Liberation Day with a celebration of the wide range of arts, which have remained central to documenting and defining African liberation. Pan-African art in its many forms – graphics, visuals, poetry, film, literature, photography, theater, and more – not only captures the variations and similarities of our lived experiences, but helps us to imagine and create alternative liberated futures. Censorship, bans, arrests, injury, surveillance, and torture are but a few of the risks revolutionary artists face as, through their artworks, they record injustice, reflect reality, fuel movements, and engage the ongoing fight against capitalism, imperialism, racism, patriarchy, and other forms of oppression. This Africa Liberation Day we will devote our time to exploring and interacting with Pan-African art, artists, and artistic space builders.
